'Chandigarh' the name if translated to English, comes as the Fort of Chandi. The City Beautiful drew its name from a Chandi (Hindu Goddess) temple which is located to the north of the capital of Punjab and Hariyana, Chandigarh. Being the capital of two states together, the city somewhat feels lonely to be part of neither but an Union Territory of India or maybe enjoys the supremacy. Chandigarh is considered as the first planned city of modern India. Some glory stories, the city takes pride in having the highest per capita income. Moreover, it is the cleanest city of India.

Being located at the foothills of the mighty Shibalik Range, the city's climate is predominantly humid subtropical. Summers are pretty hot here and the winters are placid enough. Temperature ranges between -1 0C to 41.2 0C throughout the year. During December and January, the city also enjoys occasional hoarfrosts. The average annual rainfall of the subtropical city goes up to 1110.7 mm. there are five seasons in Chandigarh namely Spring, Autumn, Summer, Monsoon and Winter.

Civic Administration
According to Act 239 of the Indian constitution, Chandigarh is ruled by an appointed administrator who is chosen by the Ministry of Home. The advisor to the administrator who is a very Senior Officer appointed on a decision taken by the Central Government is the second in power just after the Chief Administrator. A Senior Superintendent of Police who is an IPS officer looks after the law and order of the city of Chandigarh. The Chandigarh High court is the highest jurisdiction.

How to Reach
By Airway
Kingfisher Airlines, Indian Airlines, Jet Airways and other popular airlines companies have their regular direct flights to the city of Chandigarh. As of now, the Chandigarh airport is only a domestic airdrome but soon it will be escalated to international status also. Flights to Kolkata, flights to Ranchi, flights to Delhi and Mumbai are regularly available from here.

By Railway
Several major cities all across the map of India are well-connected to Chandigarh via railway. Kalka Mail, Shatabdi Express, Chandigarh Jan Shatabdi Express are to name a few of the popular trains connecting the City Beautiful.

By Roadway
Chandigarh is 260 kilometers away from Delhi. The National highway connects the capital of India to the Union territory. It is also close to Shimla, Manali, Dehradun and Amritsar. Buses from Inter State Bus Terminus penetrate every nook and corner of the city as well as they connect the city to the other parts of the state.

What to See
The whole of Chandigarh is sprinkled with lots of places to see. The Rock garden is the most visited tourist spot in the city. It was built by an ambitious transport official of the city, 36 years ago. The official named Nek Chand built many effigies whenever he was free from his work with the used or thrown out materials of the area. This resulted in one of the exemplary gardens in India made with recycled objects. The Sukhna Lake serves as a pair of lungs of Chandigarh. it is a serene lagoon amidst lush green. Pay a visit to the Pinjore Garden, Rose Garden and the Museum and Art Gallery.
