Chandigarh was in news when it hosted its first 10 day craft show at the Surajkund Mela within the city of Haryana. It is said about 500 artists from various parts of the country participated in the National Chandigarh Crafts Mela from Oct 24 to Nov 2. There would be around 300 artists from different states that would exhibit some of the finest collected handlooms and handicrafts belonging from various parts of the country. There would be a collection of folk culture and traditional cuisines that would belong from different states of Chandigarh. The Chief Minister Omar Abdullah inaugurated the function from Oct 24th onwards. The Chandigarh administration is said to host the fair at the North Zone Culture Centre (NZCC) positioned at Kalagram, the cultural hub of this city.

Around 200 national and state award-winning artisans will display their works and crafts in a customary way. Special areas are highlighted with specific paintings, costumes and designs are also displayed on these huts. Several spectators are about to witness the crafts mela from Chandigarh and its nearby states along with foreign tourists. The administration has decided to run a special bus service to Kalagram from various locations in order to facilitate the visitors.
